The Pilates method is an exercise that combines Eastern and Western techniques, mixing traditional and Swedish gymnastics exercises, rehabilitation, martial arts, yoga and dance techniques. It helps strengthen and tone the muscles, increases flexibility, functional strength, balance and improves posture.
This method is based on six principles, concentration, control, centralization, breathing, precision and fluidity of movement, which complement each other to achieve harmony of body and mind. Exercises that strengthen the central part of the body (abdominal area, lower back and buttocks area), which gives us greater control of movements are performed and also exercises are conducted to learn how to breathe correctly, which increases oxygen consumption, so it is an ideal complement to any sport.
In a study of healthy adults where the Pilates method was practiced for 20 weeks, two days per week, it was observed that the percentage of body fat decreased, also obtained an improvement in the flexibility of the spine, strength exercises and flexibility to promote a balance between mobility and stability which helps to have a healthier back.
