Additives are substances natural or artificial, which may or not have nutritional value, which are added to food in order to preserve them, enhance the flavor or control the acidity. The most commonly used additives are dyes, to intensify or keep the color of food, these do not have nutritional properties, flavour enhancers, preservatives, which increase the life of the product, the sweeteners replace sugar, antioxidants that neutralize the oxidative action of free radicals. 90% of foods containing one or more additives and many of them have no nutritional value, they are simply used to improve the aesthetic image of food. Some studies show that many of the degenerative diseases are caused by food. One of the sweeteners used in products deemed as light or sugarless, aspartame (E951), produces neurotoxic effects (headache, dizziness, mental confusion) and is believed to be carcinogenic. But even the healthiest looking foods are loaded with additives, juice usually has them where you can find additves such as Gum Arabic, dyes, processed fruit pulp, and the percentage of real fruit is minimal. It is important to read the labels on food, looking at the ingredients you can find the list of additives contained in the product. There are some mobile apps that can help us to decipher each additive that is identified with an E and a few numbers, it provides information about the types of additives and their dangers.
